Etching at Newcastle Printmakers Workshop


Dates: Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th May

Time: 10am - 4pm

Cost: $340 Non-Members | $320 current NPW Members.

Bookings are required by 11th April

Venue: Newcastle Printmakers Workshop, 27 Popran Road, Adamstown

Over two days participants will learn the basics of copper etching, including preparing plates, applying hard ground, etching with ferric chloride, simple aquatint (time permitting), and printing on cotton paper with high quality ink.

Materials: Participants need to provide their own printing paper (this can be purchased from NPW directly if needed - cash on the day) and etching needles.

All other materials are included (Copper plates, hard ground, etching ink, latex gloves and general consumables supplied).

What students need to bring: participants must wear enclosed shoes and bring apron, safety glasses, printing paper [also available at NPW], working drawing or design for etching [plate size to be advised]. Also bring drinks and lunch.

Covid Safety:

Due to NPW’s Covid Policy the workshop will be sanitised prior to, during, and after the class. Participants must checkin, wash or sanitise their hands immediately upon entering the workshop and maintain physical distancing whenever possible during class. If you have COVID-19 symptoms, have visited a COVID case location, or have been directed to isolate, you must not attend class.

This course requires a minimum of 6 participants to proceed. NB Bookings are required by 11th April, as this tutor is interstate.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Damon Kowarsky studied printmaking at Victorian College of the Arts and Glasgow School of Art. He has travelled extensively and exhibited in Australia, France, Pakistan, Japan, China, and the USA.
