Etching Workshop in Bondi

 

 
Waverley Woollhara Art School is pleased to present a weekend workshop to learn the basics of intaglio printmaking [etching] on copper.

Etching on copper is one of the oldest forms of printmaking. Invented in Germany in the 15th century, it has since been used by masters including Dürer, Rembrandt, Goya, Picasso, Hockney, and many others. It is very close to drawing, and is a rewarding way to create multiple images in a medium with a rich history and dynamic contemporary practice.

Over the two day workshop participants will learn the basics of copper etching. This includes preparing plates, applying hardground, etching with ferric chloride, simple aquatints, and printing on cotton paper with high quality ink.

Saturday 10 September and Sunday 11 September 2022 from 10am to 4pm each day.

Swan Hill Print and Drawing Acquisitive Award

 

Thrilled that 'Panorama, Naarm' has been selected as a finalist in this year's Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery Print and Drawing Acquisitive Award.

'Panorama, Naarm' was made as part of a 2021 artist in residence at Melbourne Girl's Grammar School South Yarra, and is a view looking north over the MCG and Richmond.

Artists' Talks at Newcastle Printmakers Workshop

 

Damon Kowarsky and Hyunju Kim will also be presenting artists' talks on Thursday 5 May from 6 to 8 pm discussing their practices, the importance of travel, the transformational nature of residencies, the critical need to go out into the world and DRAW, ways of sustaining a full time artistic practice, and how they worked through the changes wrought by COVID.

Please join award winning printmaker and winner of the 2021 Blue Mountains Print Prize Damon Kowarsky to celebrate the exhibition opening on Saturday 23 April from 3 to 5 pm.

Melbourne/ Naarm based Damon Kowarsky is inspired by his love of architecture and the colours of the earth and sky. His current body of work is a series of etchings and drawings exploring interactions between the natural and man-made worlds.
