Artist Conversation at Megalo Print Studio

Applying Hardground at Raleigh Street Studios

Etching at Newcastle Printmakers Workshop


Dates: Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th May

Time: 10am - 4pm

Cost: $340 Non-Members | $320 current NPW Members.

Bookings are required by 11th April

Venue: Newcastle Printmakers Workshop, 27 Popran Road, Adamstown

Over two days participants will learn the basics of copper etching, including preparing plates, applying hard ground, etching with ferric chloride, simple aquatint (time permitting), and printing on cotton paper with high quality ink.

Materials: Participants need to provide their own printing paper (this can be purchased from NPW directly if needed - cash on the day) and etching needles.

All other materials are included (Copper plates, hard ground, etching ink, latex gloves and general consumables supplied).

What students need to bring: participants must wear enclosed shoes and bring apron, safety glasses, printing paper [also available at NPW], working drawing or design for etching [plate size to be advised]. Also bring drinks and lunch.

Covid Safety:

Due to NPW’s Covid Policy the workshop will be sanitised prior to, during, and after the class. Participants must checkin, wash or sanitise their hands immediately upon entering the workshop and maintain physical distancing whenever possible during class. If you have COVID-19 symptoms, have visited a COVID case location, or have been directed to isolate, you must not attend class.

This course requires a minimum of 6 participants to proceed. NB Bookings are required by 11th April, as this tutor is interstate.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Damon Kowarsky studied printmaking at Victorian College of the Arts and Glasgow School of Art. He has travelled extensively and exhibited in Australia, France, Pakistan, Japan, China, and the USA. Architecture and the colours of earth and sky inspire much of his work. His work can be seen at www.damon.tk and Instagram @damonkowarsky.

'Walk and Talk' at Art104

 

Art104 in collaboration with ArtEverywhere is pleased to present a 'walk and talk' with eminent Forensic Egyptologist Dr Janet Davey.

Please join us for a glass of prosecco on arrival, and a wander through the beautifully restored bank building on Canterbury Rd Middle Park.

This will be the only viewing of Damon’s work at this site. Please spread the word and pop in for a glimpse of something different in Middle Park.

Landscape Etching at Megalo Print Studio

Megalo Print Studio ispleased to present a landscape etching course at the local Jerrabomberra wetlands.

Create beautiful aquatints en plein air with our exhibiting artist Damon Kowarsky. You will spend a morning in the Jerrabomberra wetlands, observing the landscape, and developing sketches, before returning to Megalo to translate your ideas onto copper plates. Drawing from his years of experience and attention to detail, Damon will guide you through the stages from sketching to printing your landscape etchings.

Megalo Print Studio is pleased to present a Q&A between artist Damon Kowarsky and artist and curator Ren Gregorčič.

Friday 18 March from 4 to 5pm

Join Melbourne/Naarm artist Damon Kowarsky and Ren Gregorčič for an engaging Q&A where they will discuss Kowarsky’s current exhibition which draws upon tensions and relationships between human and non-human landscapes.
